M.W. Burns uses everyday sounds in unsuspecting places at random times to surprise and startle listeners. By using elements of fear, surprise and spatial encasement, Burns draws inspiration from sonic warfare in his pieces. Although his work and sonic warfare are in fact very different, both sounds have very similar ideas, and one may even consider Burnsâ work to be sonic warfare in everyday life. This podcast explores these ideas by illustrating the comparisons in their applications and meanings. The sonic landscapes portrayed bring attention to the similarities, allowing listeners to gain a better understanding of Burnsâ work and how it may be influenced by the idea of sonic warfare.
